Project One

Drying a Historic Building After a Fire

DETAILS

Grade II listed church which was damaged by fire in 2007.

The practice was engaged to advise on the affect the water introduced to the building would have on the existing fabric of the building and how this would affect the proposed repair and refurbishment.

Moisture probes were installed to all parts of the building to establish the level of trapped moisture within the fabric, this allowed targeted drying measures to the wettest areas.

Tests were undertaken to all moisture probes on a monthly basis to track the rate of drying and allowed the construction programme to be modified accordingly so there would be no problems of trapped moisture after the completion of the works.
