Project Five
Repair of Timber Fleche to a Church in Lancashire
The oak fleche had been identified as at risk and the practice was employed as part of the design team to undertake a detailed survey of the structure and advise on methods of repair. Due to the location of the structure perched up on top of a church roof it was necessary to develop a repair strategy which would not involve excessive scaffold and support due to cost restrictions.
A detailed survey of the structure was undertaken then sketched out so the construction of the fleche and original assembly methods could be determined. After this a repair strategy for the decayed timber could be developed and a stage by stage repair method statement produced using methods that would not compromise the stability of the structure during the works.
